Our Breeding Philosophy
At Ahyoubetchya! Bergamascos, our goal is to honor the breed’s working heritage while recognizing the realities of modern family life. We believe responsible breeding begins with healthy, stable, well-structured dogs who demonstrate the thoughtful, devoted temperament that defines the Bergamasco Sheepdog. Each pairing is planned carefully, with attention to health testing, pedigree, structure, and temperament—not simply convenience or appearance.
We raise a limited number of litters so that every puppy receives meaningful individual attention. This allows us to focus on early socialization, exposure to everyday sights and sounds, and building confidence in new experiences. Our commitment does not end when a puppy leaves; we are here to support homes for the lifetime of the dog.
A Home-Centered Kennel
Our Bergamascos live in our home as family members, not in a separate kennel building. Puppies are born and raised in areas where they can safely experience the normal rhythm of family life—voices, footsteps, visitors, and household activity. As they grow, they are introduced to different surfaces, toys, sounds, and gentle handling routines that prepare them for life in a variety of homes.
Because they share our daily lives, we know each dog and each puppy as an individual. This helps us make thoughtful placement decisions, matching personalities and energy levels with the needs and expectations of prospective families. We want every Ahyoubetchya! Bergamasco to feel truly “at home” from the day they arrive.
Health Testing and Responsible Practices
Health is a cornerstone of our program. Before breeding, our dogs complete recommended health screenings for the breed, such as hip evaluations and eye examinations, along with regular veterinary care. We study pedigrees and collaborate with other breeders to better understand how different lines complement one another.
We do not support high-volume or irresponsible breeding practices. Litters are spaced to allow parent dogs adequate time to rest physically and emotionally, and we follow ethical guidelines regarding the number of litters per dog. Transparency matters to us, and we welcome honest conversations about health history, test results, and long-term expectations.

We view puppy placement as a partnership. Prospective homes complete an application and speak with us about their experience, goals, and daily lifestyle. We use that information to suggest puppies whose energy, confidence, and temperament are a good match. While we welcome preferences for sex, color, or general personality, our primary goal is to set both puppies and families up for long-term success.
We are honest about the responsibilities that come with a Bergamasco Sheepdog—coat care, training, and emotional needs are all part of the picture. In return, families can expect a thoughtful, devoted companion with a rich heritage and a strong desire to connect with their people.
